‘Tactile’ is a new mixed ensemble of 6 professional musicians some of whom are blind, some visually impaired and some sighted.
Managed by Creative Futures and funded by Arts Council England, its Artistic Director is percussionist and composer Jackie Walduck. Visual artist Viyki Turnbull will work alongside the musicians creating a tactile thread from which improvisatory music is woven, and from which a methodology for tactile notation in improvised music can emerge.
All the musicians will wear blindfolds, and inhabit a musical world where visual cues are removed. The ensemble will perform in the dark too, so that audiences experience the same world as the musicians and the audience are invited to consider how music and musical practice change without visual cues.
